Step 2: Apply to the University and Get Admission
Apply directly to the university and wait for your offer or acceptance letter. Some universities ask for an entrance test, an interview or a portfolio, depending on the course.
Step 3: Complete Pre-Enrolment on Universitaly
This step is mandatory. Every non-EU student enrolling in an Italian degree must pre-enrol on the official Universitaly portal (universitaly.it). You create an account, choose your course and upload your documents. Then the university reviews and validates your application.
You can only apply for the visa after the university has fully validated your pre-enrolment. If it still shows “under condition”, wait until it is cleared.
Step 4: Get Your Declaration of Value or CIMEA Statement
Italian universities need to understand your Sri Lankan qualifications (such as your A/L results or Bachelor’s degree). You can do this in one of two ways:
- Declaration of Value (Dichiarazione di Valore): issued by the Embassy of Italy in Colombo. Your documents must first be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka. For study purposes, it is free.
